“Divorce Corp” and Family Law

Henderson Legal Group • Mar 04, 2014

A controversial new film “Divorce Corp” challenges the US Family Court system and calls for simpler, easier, more straightforward access to divorce settlements. The premise of the film is the notion that judges and lawyers make divorce more complicated than it ought to be and that families lose out in the process. Elisha D. Roy, chair of the Family Law Section of The Florida Bar, writes about the presuppositions of the film and how Florida family law reflects the complex makeup of multiple family structures.

The film calls for a simplified family law system with clear-cut alimony guidelines. At Henderson Legal Group , however, we remind families that issues like alimony can vary between marriages depending on the unique situation of the two partners. If you’ve been married a short time or for decades, if you’ve got children or none, if you’ve got significant assets, if both partners work or only one person does, the alimony situation will vary. Formulas sound good in theory, but the particulars of any family situation cannot be oversimplified without compromising fairness and equity.

As your Melbourne family law attorneys , we work diligently to uncover any hidden assets that might come in to play during a divorce settlement. Our goal is always your family’s long-term well-being, and we take that into consideration as we move through divorce and family law proceedings. If you’re interested in a divorce and you’re concerned about the process, contact us today and we’ll work through the details of your family law situation.
